Hello! Welcome to my Website! My name is Sophia Paino and I am a Junior Public Relations major with a Psychology minor at Drake University in Des Moines, Iowa. I am looking for a position that allows me to help people while utilizing my experience from internships along with the skills I have gained from college classes and campus positions.
This past summer, I had an internship as a Marketing Assistant at Flair Communication, a marketing business in Fredericksburg, Virginia. As the Marketing Assistant at Flair Communication, I worked with clients across the globe on websites, newsletters, and social media. This included many meetings with and making plans with clients and monitoring their content via Hootsuite, MailChimp, and Wix.
During the summer of 2016, I was an intern at the golf and marketing company Buffalo.Agency in Reston, Virginia. Here, I did marketing, research, and communications for the Public Relations department of the company.
I recently got another internship with the Des Moines Water Works Park Foundation. Here, I work on the communication between the Foundation and the city of Des Moines, Iowa as they begin to break ground on the city’s largest park and location with the cleanest and cheapest water. Among other things, they are building an ampitheatre, creating accessible walkways, and building public restrooms. We are using platforms such as MailChimp, Slack, DonorPerfect, and AirTable. I am looking forward to learning from this amazing opportunity as we continue to make progress.
Along with this work experience, I have held multiple positions at Drake University such as Entertainment Co-Chair for the Student Activities Board, Peer Mentor Academic Consultant, a member of the Peer Advisory Board, and Vice President of Programming for my social sorority.
As the Entertainment Co-Chair for the Student Activities Board, I was in charge of the largest sum of money used to program events such as Halloween Trivia, Comedians, or Hypnotists.
As a member of the Peer Advisory Board, I spent nine months planning the first week the eight-hundred new students would be on campus. Through this, I hired and trained sixty students to be Peer Mentor Academic Consultants. I was able to influence eight-hundred students by planning events that educated them on the realities of college, helped them meet new friends, and ensured that they had fun and felt supported.
I would eventually like to work with clients in the Public Relations field on crisis communication.
